How can we help?

Common questions and troubleshooting for Noatly. If you don't find what you need here, reach out directly — we're a small team and we read everything.

🔒
Letters & locking
Why can't I open my letter?

If the lock icon is showing, your letter's unlock date hasn't arrived yet. Noatly enforces this strictly — there is no way to open a letter early, and that's intentional. The date you set is the date it opens.

Can I change the unlock date after saving?

No. Once a letter is saved with an unlock date, it is sealed. The date cannot be changed. This is core to Noatly's promise — your future self gets to read it on the day you chose, not sooner.

Can I edit a letter after saving?

Locked letters cannot be edited. Once sealed, the content is frozen until the unlock date. Only then can you read it — but not edit it retroactively.

My letter says it unlocked but I can't read it.

Try closing and reopening the app. If your device clock was recently changed or you crossed a time zone, there may be a brief delay. If the issue persists, contact us with your iOS version and device model.

🛡️
Data & privacy
I deleted the app. Can I get my letters back?

Unfortunately, no. Noatly is offline-only — your letters exist only on your device. If you delete the app without a device backup, the letters are permanently gone. We cannot recover them.

To protect your letters, keep iCloud or local backups enabled in iOS Settings. This is the only way to restore Noatly data after app deletion or device loss.

Where is my data stored?

Everything is stored locally on your device, encrypted with AES-256. Nothing is sent to any server — Noatly has no backend. Your letters are yours, privately, on your device only.

I got a new phone. Can I transfer my letters?

If you restore your new iPhone from an iCloud or local backup of your old device, Noatly and your letters should transfer. Direct device-to-device migration via the iOS setup process also typically works. Encrypted export is planned for a future update.

Notifications
I'm not getting unlock notifications.

Check two things: first, confirm notifications are enabled in iOS Settings → Noatly → Notifications. Second, open Noatly's Settings and make sure "When a note unlocks" is turned on. Both need to be enabled for unlock alerts to arrive.

How do I turn off daily reminders?

Open Noatly → Settings → Notifications and toggle off "Daily writing reminders." The scheduled notification will be cancelled immediately.

Can I test that notifications are working?

Yes. In Noatly → Settings → Notifications, tap "Send test notification," then background the app. A test notification should arrive within about 10 seconds.

Premium
How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Noatly and tap Cancel Subscription. Your Premium access continues until the end of the current billing period.

I purchased Premium but the app still shows free.

Tap "Restore purchases" in Noatly → Settings → Premium. If that doesn't work, make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID used for the purchase, then try again. If the issue continues, contact us.

Do I keep my achievement themes if I cancel?

Yes. Achievement themes are earned through writing milestones and are permanently unlocked regardless of your subscription status. Only the Premium-exclusive themes require an active subscription.

Can I request a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund for any App Store purchase.
